Special Regulations for Air Cargo Security

Air Cargo Security Due to the globally altered security situation in a ir traffic during the last couple of years, more stringent controls and security measures have been introduced for passengers and cargo flights and legislation has been amended.

Our goal is to ensure that your air cargo consignments with works of Fine Art continue to be handled without delays, free of any damage and cost-effectively.

To harmonise this aspiration with the latest statutory requirements, we have successfully achieved the authorisation as a "regulated agent".

Statutory Regulations

EU regulation 300:2008 stipulates that security con trol measures must be implemented for every air cargo consignment before loading into the airplane.

As a matter of principle a security control using x-ray scanners is always carried out. If a consignment cannot be scanned by x-ray because of its dimensions, security personnel must conduct physical controls by opening the transport containers.

This would mean:

  • Long waiting times at airports
  • Delays in transport management
  • High additional costs for security control measures

These measures and impacts are not acceptable for artwork forwarding.

A special provision in EU regulation 300:2008 envisages that these cont rol measures do not have to be carried out if the following conditions are fulfilled:

The cargo is handled by a "regulated agent", who ensures that during the entire transport chain (from the packing in museums/galleries and at colle ctors to loading into the airplane) the cargo is protected against illegal manipulations.

This avoids incalculable delays and high additional costs! Our specialists for air cargo security are glad to answer any further queries on this issue and support you in all matters concerning air cargo:
